Patches

several patches to improve an already good game

Tomb Raider on Windows XP

At the time this game was created, nobody expected its popularity to last so long. And because everything in the computer world develops very quickly, Windows XP suddenly arrived, built on a completely different core than the old Win95 or Win98. This new Windows brought quite decent stability, but at the expense of Tomb Raider. This game was not designed for this system, and so it quite successfully resists running on this operating system. It could not stay that way, so several patches were released that make running it on Windows XP possible.

Tomb Raider 1
There are a huge number of patches for the first game in the series, not only for WinXP, so it has its own separate page here.
Tomb Raider 3   (0,44MB)
Tomb Raider 3: The Lost Artefact   (0,45MB)
Tomb Raider 4   (0,40MB)
Tomb Raider 4: TRLE   (0,33MB)
Tomb Raider 5   (0,53MB)
Tomb Raider All   (5,57MB)
This last patch is intended for all Tomb Raider games and all Windows versions that could sabotage running them. Read the included readme before use.

All these patches are intended for the full versions of the games. They cannot be used with demos or similarly cut-down products. If you do not find a patch here for your Tomb Raider game (TR-2 and so on), it is because it does not need one to run on Windows XP. Of course, patches for Windows 2000 also exist. You can find them here as a complete patch package with a size of 1.44 MB.

Patches for the TRLE engine

The TRLE engine is a slightly modified Tomb Raider 4 engine. It is adapted for playing custom levels and differs in several small details. I will not describe them here, because this is mostly a matter for level authors, who can read about it in the level creation tutorials. For players themselves it is not that important. Nevertheless, several patches have been released specifically for level authors, and in the end they can simplify level creation and make their levels look much better. So here they are:

TR-4 (TRLE) Patcher v. 076 rev5b   (0,27MB)
I will pause for a moment at this patcher. It is essentially a huge package of patches in one. With its help you can edit the exe file and adjust the game properties to your liking. For example, it can disable disappearing dead enemies, disable transparent Lara, increase the view distance, define the number of secrets in the game, and the list could go on for quite a while. As I already wrote, it is practically useless for players, but it can help level authors a lot when designing their own levels. However, this patch must be used with care.

Patches for newer Tomb Raider games

As we have become used to recently, newer sequels, namely TR-6 and TR-7, brought countless corrective patches. Especially with TR-6, playing without installing them is quite a problem. That is why these patches are included here as well.

Tomb Raider 6 v4.2   (5,12MB)
Tomb Raider 6 v4.9   (8,48MB)
Tomb Raider 6 v5.2   (6,89MB)
Tomb Raider 7 v1.1   (15,6MB)
Tomb Raider 7 v1.2   (35,4MB)
