DXTre3D editor
This is the editor I work with, and it is the main topic of this website. Here you will find tutorials for it, a Czech translation, various helper programs, and above all technical support in the help section. It can create levels for all Tomb Raider games and it has technical support in the form of updates. On the other hand, it cannot handle some effects that are common in the TRLE editor, such as mirror effects, collision boxes and perhaps a few more. You can see what the editor looks like in the image below.
DXTre3D 2.0 Rev 2C (5,70MB)
So far the newest version of the editor.
Dxtre3D 2.0 Rev 2L (1,44MB)
Editor update to a newer version. More information is in the Readme file.
Dxtre3D CZ v1.1 (14KB)
Czech translation for the DXTre3D editor. Can be used with version 2.0 R2 and newer.
Dxtre3D v3.0 Alpha DEMO
(2,17MB)
Demo of an editor developed by Turbo Pascal for his own game engine. It has practically nothing in common with the DXTre3D 2.0 editor. For more information, read the included Readme file.
TRLE editor
This is the official editor for Tomb Raider 4, with a slightly modified game so it cannot be confused with the original TR-4. This game is part of the editor. It is true that this editor, unlike DXTre3D, can do some extra things such as mirror effects, collision boxes and perhaps more. However, because it can create levels only for one Tomb Raider game, it is a single-purpose tool. I am not saying this is a disadvantage, but what if someone wants to create levels for older games too? It also has no technical support in the form of updates. I will leave it to everyone which editor they choose. The editor screenshot is below again.
TRLE editor WinXP and Vista compatible
(106MB) Editor compatible with newer Windows, including all animations in every level.
A few additional alternative download links are available
here.
The Next Generation Level Editor
Next Generation Level Editor
(0,38MB) Additional patch for the TRLE editor that improves running this editor on newer Windows and adds many new functions. Read the Readme file for more information.
Development environment for Tomb Raider (VPTR-2.1)
For those of you who do not want to search for Tomb Raider creation and editing programs in a complicated way, I prepared a complete development environment. Here you will find both editors (DXTre3D and TRLE), including many test projects for both editors. So that you can try your own projects or the test projects, bases for all Tomb Raider games and versions are included as well. Last but not least, there are many programs that will certainly be useful during development.
Downloading the development environment:
The original multipart archives containing the complete environment are no longer available. The accompanying package with documentation, a video demonstration and the original tools has been preserved:
VPTR-2.1 (25 MB)
Installing the development environment:
It is completely simple. Just run the VPTR_v2.1.exe file and then follow the instructions on the screen. The installation is then finished and the environment is ready for creating and testing levels.
Contents:
Everything this environment contains is shown in a video presentation
here.
Usage:
I use a similar environment for my own work. The advantage is that everything is together, so work is faster. Files from the individual editors can be combined with each other, which makes it possible to achieve maximum work efficiency.
I hope it will be useful and make your work with the editors easier.
